Mercari Fees 2026: The 10% Selling Fee, Explained With Real Numbers
Mercari US charges sellers 10% of the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. There is no payment processing fee and no listing fee. Buyers pay a separate 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the same total, which does not come out of your payout. This structure has applied to new and updated listings since 6 January 2025.
The part most sellers miss is the shipping. The 10% is also charged on the shipping the buyer pays.
What you keep at common prices
These assume you offer free shipping, so the buyer pays no shipping and the 10% applies to the item price only.
| Sale price | Mercari fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| $10 | $1.00 | $9.00 |
| $25 | $2.50 | $22.50 |
| $50 | $5.00 | $45.00 |
| $100 | $10.00 | $90.00 |
If the buyer pays shipping instead, add 10% of the shipping to the fee. A $25 item with $7 buyer-paid shipping costs you $3.20 in fees, not $2.50, and you keep $21.80 from the item price. The $7 goes to the label.
Other Mercari fees that can hit your payout
- Instant Pay costs $3 flat per cash-out. A normal direct deposit to your bank is free, but a failed transfer request costs a non-refundable $2.
- Cancelling an order costs 5% of the item price, up to $25.
- Authentication is $5 per listing, and $10 for a Certificate of Authenticity.
- If your package is heavier or bigger than the label you bought, Mercari can charge you an extra fee based on what the carrier bills.
Know what each sale left you, across every app
Cleared logs each sale with the right fee for eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Etsy and Vinted and shows your profit per item. The first 20 items are free. Pro is $9 once: unlimited items and a CSV export for taxes.
Old listings follow the old rules
Listings created before 6 January 2025 and never edited keep the old fees until you update them: a $0.50 plus 2.9% payment processing fee on your side, and a 10% buyer fee on the buyer's side. Any edit moves the listing to the current structure.
Mercari against Poshmark on the same sale
On a $50 sale with no buyer-paid shipping you keep $45.00 on Mercari and $40.00 on Poshmark. On a $10 sale you keep $9.00 on Mercari and $7.05 on Poshmark, because Poshmark's flat $2.95 fee on anything under $15 is almost 30% of a $10 item (see Poshmark fees 2026). For cheap items Mercari is the clear pick on fees alone.
The number to watch
Budget 10% plus 10% of whatever shipping the buyer pays, plus $3 each time you use Instant Pay. If you cash out small balances often, $3 a time adds up. I would wait until the balance is worth moving and use the free direct deposit. Cleared's calculator runs the Mercari math on any sale, free.
